Phase One: Spark Embers — When You’re Too Tired to Try and Too Loud to Stay Silent
If you’re in this phase, I want to speak directly to your soul:
You are not lazy. You are not broken. You are not failing.
You’re tired in a way that rest doesn’t fix. You’re scared to speak because people stopped listening. And if one more person tells you to "just journal about gratitude," you might actually scream.
What Phase One Feels Like:
You’re exhausted even when you sleep
You repeat your story and feel worse every time
You want to ask for help but don’t know how to do it without apologizing
You feel like a burden, or a broken record
You don’t remember what you enjoy anymore
You sometimes fantasize about disappearing just to stop feeling like too much
This isn’t "a rough patch." This is a full nervous system shutdown.
And here’s the kicker: You’re still holding it all together. For your kids. For your job. For appearances.
No one sees the hemorrhaging happening internally.
That’s Phase One. The phase of Spark Embers. Where the flame hasn’t gone out—it’s just buried under years of ash.
What Doesn't Work in Phase One:
Toxic positivity
Self-help books that read like to-do lists
Big goals or big plans
Shaming yourself for being "stuck"
Pretending you're okay when you’re not
Healing doesn’t start with action. It starts with acknowledgment.
What Actually Helps in Phase One:
Being witnessed (without being fixed)
Micro-moments of safety: a breath, a cup of tea, a familiar scent
Letting someone fully hear your pain without rushing to silver linings
Hearing someone else say: "You’re not crazy. You’re carrying too much."
Finding a single word to describe how you feel (without needing to explain it)
This phase is about letting the smallest spark be enough. You don’t need motivation right now. You need gentle resonance.
A Practice For Spark Embers:
The 3-Word Check-In
Every morning (or whenever you remember), ask yourself:
"What 3 words describe how I feel right now?"
No explanations. No fixing. Just witness it.
Then ask:
"Is there one thing I could do today to be 2% kinder to myself based on those words?"
That’s it. That’s the practice.
Because in Phase One, survival IS sacred.
You Are Not Behind. You Are Becoming.
This is the part no one talks about because it doesn’t look good on Instagram. But this is where everything starts.
You are not lost. You are not done. You are still burning beneath the ash.
Let that be enough for now. Let this be your spark.
